Spiced Cappuccino MixPosted in : From the original blog, On the Run, Recipes, Staples on by : Lauri Tags: brown bag, cheaper than store-bought, comfort food, easy, eating out less, food finance, home cooking, penzey's spices, recipe, staples, ten minutes or less
5 1/2 c creamer or dry milk
1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1 c instant coffee, pulverized
1/2 c cocoa powder
2 t cinnamon
1 1/2 t nutmeg
Grind the instant coffee in a food processor or blender, so it mixes more effectively. Put everything in a big bowl and mix by hand with wire whisk, folding together until thoroughly blended. Store in an airtight container. 3 tablespoons is about right for a standard coffee mug: add hot water, stir and enjoy.
Note: Dry milk isn’t terribly cheap, and many folks object to the use of dry coffee creamer. The creamer or milk can easily be left out, leaving you to add milk or cream as desired when you make each cup.
Of course, anything in this recipe can be altered to your own taste: use sweetener instead of sugar; use cloves or allspice instead of nutmeg; play with exotic flavors like anise, ginger or cardamom; add vanilla powder or ground mint leaves… Play with it, and let us know what you come up with!
